Asbestos Management
Asbestos has been identified as the largest occupational health killer
in the second half of the twentieth century. Three thousand people die each year in
the UK from asbestos-related illness. In a bid to tackle these staggering death rates
, a new duty, under the Control of Asbestos At Work Regulations 2002 (CAW), came
into force in May 2004, placing a duty on those with responsibilities for the
repair and maintenance of non-domestic premises to:
- Identify the presence of asbestos
- Record and assess the condition of asbestos
- Assess and manage the risks
- Communicate risks to anyone likely to disturb the asbestos
Doing nothing is not an option. Those who fail to comply will run the risk of prosecution from the HSE, with possible imprisonment and/or unlimited fines.
We have the skills and capability to help you manage your CAW duty. We provide a full range of support from a one-off survey, condition monitoring, management of extensive remediation to site clearance and disposal.
All our work (survey, sampling and analysis) is carried out in accordance with UKAS requirements. We are accredited to UKAS as both an Inspection Body and Testing Laboratory. We also have certification to the quality standards ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
The quality of our work and a high standard of customer service are of paramount importance to us. We believe that our ability to respond rapidly and address clients’ specific needs keeps our clients coming back time and again.
Surveys and Condition Monitoring Programme - After surveying, monitoring is vital if any Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACMs) are to be left in-situ.
Remediation Planning Management – Where ACMs are in good condition, it may be appropriate to leave them undisturbed. If in poor condition, removal or repair will be necessary. If building demolition is required, safe removal of the materials will be crucial. In any case, we are capable of managing the process in all phases.
Web-based Management Systems - Our data reporting methods using Geographical Information System (GIS) help customers to maintain detailed inventories and records of sites. Our web-based information system, set up on an intranet or extranet facility, allows all asbestos information to be stored, retrieved and easily updated.
Training and Advice – We are fully conversant with current legislation and guidance and are able to provide consultancy advice and training at all stages of a project.
